Friday Fitspiration: It's not gonna happen overnight...

I know I've told my story before but let me briefly explain what I've been tying to accomplish. I have been working out for the last year and a half or more trying to get fit! Notice I used the term "fit" and not "skinny". I'm not on a 12 week eating plan or one of those DVDs you do for a month. I'm definitely not knocking people who do these things because I have tried them myself. Especially the DVD's. There's nothing wrong with DVD's! The only thing that would be wrong is if you expected to keep the weight off after those 30 days or 90 days without putting in any effort...then you'll have a problem.

The point I want to get across today is that becoming fit doesn't happen overnight. Everyone always asks me "Kiesha, what do you do in the gym?" "Kiesha, I wish I could do what you do.". I reply with my workout routine and tell them "You CAN do what I do". The truth is that they just don't want to put in the effort!

Being fit and healthy is a whole lifestyle change! It's something you do for LIFE. My "trainer" knew that I wanted to lose 20lbs and wanted to feel comfortable with my body. He would say to me "You didn't put on that 20lbs overnight so don't expect to lose it overnight." How true is that?! Also, one of my absolute favorite quotes is "Don't be angry with the results you did not get from the work you did not do!".

I hope this post helped some of you today! Remember to keep pushing yourself! TRUST ME, one day you will look in the mirror and be very happy with what you see and you'll wonder "Woah! When did this happen?!"

KEEP PUSHING!

Friday Fitspiration!

If you see me at the gym you will most likely find me in the weight traning area! I do a quick cardio warm up then I get right to the weights! I've toned up so much and have really been liking the results I'm seeing! I have shared this video on Facebook but I wanted to share it here in case anyone missed it. I modeled my workout after this on Monday with the weights dumbed down a bit. It's difficult as any good workout is, but I think the results will be well worth it! Check it out:

Friday Fitspiration: How bad do you want it?!

I want to share a very special quote with you today from ET the Hip Hop Preacher...

I'm not going to say too much about this because I think it is very self explanatory. What I will say is... while getting frustrated with your fitness goals you should keep this in mind. If you are just going through the motions and not giving it all you've got...maybe you don't want it all that bad. But if you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, you will put 110% into EVERYTHING you do!

If you really want to be motivated I highly reccommend downloading The Blueprint 2 Success Volume 1 here! I've only had this free mixtape for a week and it already has lit a fire under me!

Also check out his YouTube page for even more inspiration!

Enjoy your weekend!

Friday Fitspiration: Keep Going!

My cousin texted me the other day and told me she was losing her motivation to work out. She has come so far and has made GREAT progress! I'm so proud of what she has accomplished. I told her I've been there and have felt unmotivated too. So, when we feel like quitting we need to remember all the reasons why we started and how far we have come!

Keep Going! :-)

Friday Fitspiration: Choosing a workout buddy

Working out isn't always fun and it's certainly not easy. You may choose to workout with a friend for moral support. Here are some tips to choosing your workout buddy wisely:

  1. Choose someone with similar athletic ability. You want to make sure that your buddy isn't holding you back. If you are a runner and your partner has a hard time walking a mile then your partnership is not going to work out. You are going to feel held back and although your partner will be getting that extra push from you, they will feel discouraged that they cannot keep up
  2. Find someone who is dependable. Making sure your schedules are somewhat in sync is very important. Also, if you have someone who misses workouts, you are more likely to skip out as well.
  3. Comparable goals. You don't have to have the exact same goals as your buddy. However, they should be similar. If you are trying to gain muscle mass and your buddy is trying to lose 20 pounds,  you won't be doing the same exercises in the gym and will be losing some of that motivation from your buddy.
  4. Honesty is the key. It's great to have someone cheering you on. It's even better to have someone who is honest with you. For example, if you are being lazy and not pushing yourself on the treadmill, your workout buddy might let you know that you need to turn up the intensity.
Hope these tips help! Choose your buddy wisely. Don't let anyone interfere with your goals!

Friday Fitspiration: Don't cheat yourself!

So, I've been working out for about a year and a half now. Working out is not always fun and I found that sometimes I was just going through the motions just to get it done. Recently, I realized that I've been cheating myself in the gym. Lately, I've been working much harder and using proper form. What a difference I've been feeling! If we are going to work out we have to do it all the way! The only person who will suffer from it is the person not doing it! Here are some tips on how to make sure you are not cheating yourself:
  1. Hands free! Whether you're on the treadmill, elliptical, or arc trainer...don't hold onto the bars! I promise you won't fall off! Plus, you are working your core because you have to work harder to stabilize yourself! You will get a better workout if you are hands free!
  2. Leave the books, magazines and phones at home or in your locker! You are there to work out not to read and text! You should be focused on getting the most out of your workout!
  3. Proper form. When doing any exercise, it is important to use proper form. Especially when weight training. Improper form can result in injury and your muscles not to form correctly.
  4. Sweat it out! If you are not sweating, you are not working hard enough. Simple as that!
  5. Step outside your comfort zone! If you are running and you're sweating like a pig, your legs are on fire and you just wanna stop...keep going! When it gets difficult, work harder. THAT'S when you will see results!

Friday Fitspiration: Get Motivated

No Motivation? Try these tips:

Look at fitness blogs. Try my Tumblr page. It's full of inspiring pictures!

Imagine what your body will look and feel like when you reach your goal. Sometimes while I'm running, I'll start thinking about how good reaching my goal will make me feel. This gives me that extra push I need to keep going.

Take progress pictures. As you continue working out you can look at how far you've come and realize you don't want to go back to where you started!

Get a workout buddy. I don't mean someone that you can sit at the gym and talk with. I mean someone who works out hard and you can talk about how hard you worked AFTER. Push each other to work harder! You can also swap ideas about healthy recipes, new workouts, etc.

Think of the regret you'll feel if you don't finish your workout. One of my favorite quotes is "Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret."
