Friday Fitspiration: Keep Going!

My cousin texted me the other day and told me she was losing her motivation to work out. She has come so far and has made GREAT progress! I'm so proud of what she has accomplished. I told her I've been there and have felt unmotivated too. So, when we feel like quitting we need to remember all the reasons why we started and how far we have come!

Keep Going! :-)

The Thursday Three!

Introducing The Thursday Three and probably the most random of all my posts! On Thursday's I will give you a little insight on some of my favorite things or a list of my top three "somethings"! I hope you will share your list on that day's topic as well in the comments below!

Today I will share:

My three must-haves for the gym!

  1. iPod! I will go insane doing cardio without it!
  2. Water bottle. There's a water fountain at the gym but what little water comes out of it is usually warm! Gross!
  3. Gloves. I dont want my hands getting all rough and cut up from the weights!
What are your three must-haves for the gym?

Mid-week Motivation: Be an Early Bird!

I remember the days when I used to be a morning person. I would brag that I wake up as soon as my alarm goes off and never hit the snooze button. Let's just say that those days are long gone and my snooze button gets hit at least 3 times...on a good day. I hate not having time to really get ready and spend time on my appearance. I also hate that I can't enjoy a decent breakfast before I start my day. Being an early bird may seem painful but there are really so many benefits! Let's take a look at some of the benefits of being an early bird:

1. You'll have time to be more productive.  Get things done such as blogging, responding to emails, reading and minor cleaning.

2. Exercise. I love getting my workout out of the way in the morning. Even if you do end up exercising after work, a walk around the neighborhood or a 20 minute Zumba DVD would be  a great extra workout AND it'll get your blood flowing!

3. If you're a parent, enjoy some quiet time!

4. Eat a good breakfast! After all, it is the most important meal of the day! I have this dream of sitting at the table eating breakfast, sipping coffee or tea, and reading before work. This has never happened, ever.

5. Get to work early! You'll be surprised how much you can accomplish before your co-workers come in!

Check back next week for tips on waking up early!

Beauty Tip Tuesday: Shiny Hair from the Kitchen?!

Ok, this is going to sound very strange and you might say "Kiesha, are you nuts?!" but this works! If your hair is a little on the dry side and you're looking to add some shine, go to your kitchen and grab some...olive oil...

  • Add a dime size amount of olive oil to your styling cream.
  • This works best on wet hair.
  • Scrunch and work cream into hair.
  • When your hair is dry it will have a nice healthy shine!

Don't worry about smelling like food. The scent of your styling cream will overpower the olive oil!

Money Saving Quick Tip: Sleep On It!

Are you a shopaholic? Do you often suffer from buyers remorse? Well, I am and I do. I loooove shopping as much as the next girl but I hate to see my bank account suffer as a result. I recently decided to start taking control of my spending. I would go on a bit of a shopping binge just because I was bored then  after I would feel bad about the money I spent. If you ave ever felt the same way try this:

If you want to make a purchase, sleep on it! Try to cut back on impulse spending. You might think you need those new pair of shoes or the newest Essie Polish shade but give it some thought.

When you feel like making a purchase, think about it for about a week or at least a couple of days. Do you still want it after those days are up? Chances are you won't!

This is a little trick that has helped both myself and my bank account a lot! Give it a try and give your bank account a little break :-)

Friday Fitspiration: STOP Making Excuses!

Do you find yourself making excuses a lot? Do you often tell yourself and others "I was going to do this but..." or do you often say the dreaded phrase "I can't"? My favorites are "I can't afford a gym memebership" or "I don't have a ride to the gym" or "I'm too busy". It costs NOTHING to go outside and run in your neighborhood. It's also free to do squats, push ups and ab work in your livingroom. There are also a ton of people that are just as busy or even more busy than you are who find the time to take care of their bodies! Well if you are serious about getting healthy...STOP making excuses! Do you know who you are hurting? Yourself. Who's health are you sabotaging? Your own.

Let's be honest, no one can change your life for you. You have to do it on your own, no one will hold you hand and do it for you. I'm only being so blunt because I used to make excuse after excuse about why I couldn't do certain things in the gym. My favorite thing to say was "I can't physically do it!" Which is SUCH a lie! I used to say this about running. Then, I realized I could run 4 miles. Once I had built myself up to running mile after mile I realized how much I've been holidng myself back. I realized that if I stopped making excuses a year ago that I would be even farther along in my journey! It wasn't until I stopped making excuses that I realized I went down 3 pant sizes! I realized that I could do this! I stopped going through the motions at the gym and put in REAL effort.

I'll be honest, there are still days when I find myself making excuses and I actually annoy myself by doing so haha! What I'm trying to say is please stop holding yourself back! You are capable of much more than you think! Get healthy to see your kids grow up. Get healthy to grow old with your spouse and friends. Most imporantly, get healthy for YOU!
